November, week 3
This is my best week probably ever, and certainly since I started recording in excruciating detail in May. So let’s see how it wound up, shall we?
Dollar General:
Ok, this was last night and not today, but stay with me here. I was heading out to do laundry and realized I didn’t have enough detergent, and since I had to go there anyway I figured I’d save the stop from today’s list and there were only a few things to get anyway.
•4 boxes Triscuits, regular $2.75 each, sale $2.00 each, $1.00 coupon each = $1.00 each
•2 bags Chef Michael’s dog food, $4.00 each, $3.00 coupon each = $1.00 each
•a Twix and pack of Bubblicious because I had A with me, $.65 and $.60 respectively
•the Sun detergent I went for in the first place, regular $4.50, sale $4.00, $1.00 coupon = $3.00
Target:
Target is on my hit list this week. I had one reason and one reason only for making this a separate stop. The other things on the list I could have gotten just as well somewhere else or done without. But they carry the Johnson’s Buddies baby bar soap which I hadn’t seen anywhere else in town, and they have it for $.97 a bar, making them free after $1.00 Johnson’s coupons, of which I had 8. I’ve done this before, and I know lots of other people around the country who have done this hundreds of times before. But today they decided to be snitty about it and when the computer wouldn’t take it because it was $.03 over the cost of the item they refused to adjust the coupon value to $.97. I should’ve just left everything at that point, but that didn’t occur to me until later. So, what I did get...
•Huggies jumbo pack, $9.74, $2.00 coupon = $7.74
•Up & Up baby wipes, $1.82, $1.00 coupon = $.82*
•Pepperidge Farm gingerbread men cookies, regular $2.99, sale $2.50, $.75 store coupon, $.75 coupon = $1.00
•gummy vitamins, $4.04
*These wipes ticked me off some too. Other people elsewhere reported these wipes being available for $1.00 or thereabouts, but these were the lowest priced I could find.
Next up, Walgreens:
Aside from only having one bottle of Snuggle and a little trouble at checkout getting the vitamins to ring properly this one worked out well.
•Accuchek Aviva blood sugar monitor, regular $19.99, sale $14.99, $5.00 store coupon, $10.00 coupon = free
•Snuggle fabric softener, regular $5.29, sale $3.50, $3.00 coupon = $.50
•2 Triaminic kids’ melting strips, regular $6.49 each, sale $5.99 each, $3.00 coupon off both = $4.49 each
•Breathe Right strips, $5.99, $1.00 coupon = $4.99
•2 Nature Made vitamin D, regular $4.99 each, sale B1G1, $1.00 coupon = 1.99
•Visine, $3.99, $2.00 coupon = $1.99
•4 small boxes Cheezits, regular $.99, sale $.50
•100 ct aspirin, $1.29, $1.29 coupon = free
I now have $9.00 Register Rewards and a rebate for the Accuchek monitor for purchase price of $14.99.
Next stop, CVS:
The only disappointment here was a lack of Honey Nut Cheerios on the shelf, but that was no disaster. This one went quite well.
•2 Dayquil/Nyquil duo packs, regular $11.99 each, sale $10.00 each, $1.50 coupon each = $8.50 each
•2 Glade Sense & Spray kits, regular $9.99 each, sale $6.00 each, $2.00 store coupon, $4.00 coupon each = $1.00 each
•4 Cinnamon Toast Crunch single serve bowls, $1.00 each, $1.00 coupon off 2 = $.50 each
•7 Johnson’s Buddies soaps, I was so mad at Target that I bought these here even though they cost me a little, $1.39 each, $1.00 coupon each = $.39 each
•green bag tag*, $.99
•2 prescriptions refilled online, $14.76
*This is a new thing for them. You buy this tag and every time you use a reusable bag instead of plastic they scan the tag, and after 4 scans you get $1.00 ECB. It can only be scanned once a day, but it’s still better than $.05 per bag from United (not that I’m complaining about that!)
I now have $14.00 ECB and a $5 off of $15 coupon.
The last store was United. It’s the longest list but not very long by my usual standards.
•2 children’s Motrin, $4.39 each, $3.00 coupon off both = $2.89 each
•4 Ecotrin, $2.99 each, $7.00 coupon off 2 = $2.04 overage
•2 Herbal Essences shampoo, $2.70, one free coupon and one $1.00 coupon = $.85 each (or $1.70 for one and one free, technically)
•1 lb black beans, $1.09, WIC
•spices were a GREAT deal - 2 McCormick ground cloves, regular $8.99 each, sale $2.50 each, $.50 coupon each = $2.00 each - 1 McCormick ground nutmeg, regular $6.79, sale $2.50, $.50 coupon = $2.00 - McCormick ground cinnamon, regular $1.69, sale $1.45, $.50 coupon = $.95
•2 brown sugar 2lb bags, $.99 each
•2 canisters Maxwell House coffee, regular $9.99 each, sale $8.99 each, $1.00 coupon off both = $8.49 each
•2 Gold Medal flour 5lb bags, regular $1.99 each, sale $1.50 each, $.50 coupon each = $1.00 each
•4 12pks Coke, regular $4.59 each, sale $4.00 each, one free coupon = $3.00 each (or $4.00 each for 3 and one free, technically)
•18 Vitamin Water, regular $1.69 each, sale $.89 each
•Doritos, regular $3.99, sale $3.50, free coupon = free
•2 8pks Rice Krispy treats, $2.50 each, $1.00 coupon off both = $2.00 each
•canister of grits, $1.19
•2 loaves Sara Lee whole wheat bread, $2.49 each, WIC
•Smuckers apricot preserves, $2.19, $.55 coupon = $1.64
•2 Birds Eye Lightly Sauced veg, $2.50 each, $.50 coupon each = $2.00 each
•2 Birds Eye Steamfresh veg, regular $1.59 each, sale $1.09 each, $.35 coupon each = $.74 each
•2 Green Giant Steamers veg, $1.59 each, $.50 coupon each = $1.09 each
•2 Ore Ida Express fries, regular $1.19, sale $.99, $1.00 coupon off both = $.49 each
•6 bolillo rolls, regular $.99, sale $.71
•quart milk, $1.59, WIC
•Reddi Whip cream, $3.99, free coupon = free
•American cheese, $3.99, WIC
•4 big city papers, $2.00 each
•11 reusable bags credit, $.55
I now have a coupon for a free 14-22 lb turkey.
If you’ve stuck with me this long, here’s the totals for the weekend:
Regular prices, $358.25
Sale prices, $288.14
Price paid, $170.73, or 47.66%
I have $9 RR at Walgreens, $14 ECB at CVS and a $5/$15 coupon, a free turkey at United, and $15.74 in rebates. Factoring these in gives me a percentage of 35.9%, but as we know I don’t like to do that. :)
